Crankshafts, Lift Assists, and the Ohio Safety Grant – Mike’s Ergonomic Lift Solution

How a Teir 1 Auto Supplier Used The Ohio Safety Grant to Purchase Ergonomic Safety Equipment for their Workforce - And How You Can Too!

When our client, a Tier 1 auto supplier, faced a common problem in their manufacturing process involving the need to lift and move heavy crankshafts, which typically weighed between 25 to 40 pounds, they knew they needed a safe, ergonomic solution. The task of manually lifting these heavy components had been causing multiple issues within the workforce. Their old method of lifting was not only inefficient but also led to a significant number of injuries, particularly back problems, among the employees.

Recognizing the urgent need to address this safety concern and improve their manufacturing process, the client attended the Safety Show in Columbus. It was at this event that they learned about the Ohio Safety Grant and the possibilities it presented for enhancing workplace safety.

Upon discovering this opportunity, our client reached out to Conveyer & Caster for guidance and assistance in securing the grant. Conveyer & Caster account specialists collaborated with them to develop a proposal that outlined the lift assist solution, which would not only reduce the physical strain on their employees but also improve productivity.

With the financial support of the Ohio Safety Grant, our client was able to purchase the installed lift assist solution from Conveyer & Caster. This innovative solution streamlined their manufacturing process, significantly reducing the risk of workplace injuries, especially back issues. Additionally, the lift assist system allowed the aging workforce to continue contributing effectively without overexertion.

Let's Talk More About Safety Grants

The success story of our client’s experience with the Ohio Safety Grant highlights the positive impact that proactive investment in workplace safety can have. By taking the initiative to apply for the grant and leveraging Conveyer & Caster’s longstanding expertise in material handling solutions, they not only improved the well-being of their employees but also enhanced their operational efficiency to better align them for success in the future. A win-win.

The Ohio Safety Grant, a state-funded program, is designed to provide financial support to businesses striving to enhance workplace safety. By providing funding for equipment and initiatives that reduce workplace injuries and illnesses, the grant enables companies to create safer, healthier work environments for their employees.

Ohio isn’t the only state to offer such grants; Michigan has a similar program, as does North Dakota, Minnesota, and Washington, among a multitude of other states. These grants make additional funding available—some through reimbursements, some through donations, some through dollar matching programs—to companies that wish to purchase ergonomic and safety equipment that is proven to reduce the risk of injury for their employees. Additionally, when you work with Conveyer & Caster to come up with your ergonomic solutions, you’ll gain our expert knowledge to assist you in writing for the grant and increase your chances of acquiring the grant successfully.

Some private companies and nonprofits offer worker safety grants too. Workers compensation insurance companies, like Texas Mutual and Missouri Employer’s Mutual, sometimes offer safety grants to policyholder employers for the purchase of ergonomic-based safety equipment.

At Conveyer & Caster, we believe in the importance of workplace safety and are always on the lookout for innovative solutions to help our clients improve safety and efficiency. This commitment to safety led us to explore opportunities provided by the Ohio Safety Grant and assist our automotive supplier customer into a safer and more efficient future.
